Legacy
Introduction |
10
Generations on a legacy lot, without cheats. What will be
handed down from Generation to Generation? Riches, a gorgeous
house and/or a Legacy of Love? Or Poverty, a hovel and drama?
Things marked with a (!!)
are important and should be done because they will ensure that
you have the least amount of trouble due to corrupt lots.
Each Generation born is a new Generation, the game ends
when the first 10th generation baby is born. (The 10th
generation living on the lot must be a direct descendant of
the original sim). Or the direct line is broken.
Generation 0 = Your Original Legacy Sim.
Generation 10 = their great-great great-great
great-great great-great grand-child
The University/Non University challenges will be included
together - because in the end the scores are not important -
but let me know if you don't have Uni, so I can make sure any
objects I send to you, you can use.
See the glossary at the end for any terms that don't make
sense.

| Legacy
Rules |
These Rules must be abided
by throughout the challenge. Any breaking of these rules will
either (a) end your challenge, or (b) incur a fine in points.
- You must have one sim living on the legacy lot at
all times that can trace their ancestry back to the
original sim in a direct 'blood-line'. The challenge ends
when the blood-line dies out.
- Legacy Sims - the Heir may only marry Townies or
NPC's. Maxis sims (eg. Goths, Newbies, Caliente's) and
Player sims (Kumiko Azami) cannot be married or co-habit
(i.e. move in). Bella Goth is considered to be a townie,
rather than a Maxis sim.
- Adopted children do not count as legacy heirs.
The exception to this is when you know that the heritage
of the adopted child is from the original Legacy Sim.
- In-breeding is not allowed amongst legacy heir
sims. If done, it incurs a 2 point penalty or an end to
the challenge. The only situation where Sims can
interbreed, is if the legacy heir on the lot has died and
a direct-line descendant exists off-lot.
- Aging must be on at all times.
- The game must be saved on each exit of the lot.
i.e. no quit without save after a bad chance card, or an
unplanned death.
- Sims moved out of the Legacy House to the Lot Bin
or when they find their own place may NOT return to the
legacy house. The exception to this rule is Sims that have
gone to University. Sims that have gone to University (if
the legacy heir) must return to the legacy lot on leaving
Uni.
- No Cheats (except the 45degree bool prop, and
move_object on for purely decorative reasons (and the
censor off for personal taste)
- No Hacks which affect Aspiration, Mood, Money,
Influence, skills, Relationship or Birth chances. So
e.g. Abduction patch, or Twin patch - No. Less Weeds or
Daily Gardener - Yes. The InSeminator is right out! There
is a list of allowed and not-allowed hacks further down
the list. Please refer to this list
before including a hack in your game.
- No SimPE manipulation of Legacy Sim, or NPC sims,
except Sim Surgery (i.e. changing their looks)
- All the Aspiration and Career Rewards are acceptable
to use (i.e yes it is ok to use smart milk, elixir of
life, the energizer machine).
- You can use non-maxis recolors and new mesh objects
in your game (as well as walls, floors, terrains, etc,
etc.) Just not ones that have been hacked.
- You can send your Sim to University and
there are extra bonuses down below.
- Aspirations for all Sims born in game, are done by
the roll of a dice. This is done at birth, and
if the aspiration changes at Uni. It is not permitted to
choose an aspiration yourself unless you've rolled a 6! If
you have no dice, then picking a number out of container
is ok too. If you've accidentally set an aspiration
without dicing - this incurs a 2 point penalty.

| Before
you Start |
These are
essential, and must be done.
- Remove all hacks from your game, and then add
just the ones that are allowed. Check the Hack List for
hacks that could be essential for later on when your lot
has corruption problems.
These are suggestions only - and will enhance your game
play, but it's up to you whether you do them or not.
- (o) The easiest way to control your game so that you
don't have non-allowed hacks is to create a separate game
just for it. This
tutorial will show you how.

- Creating a new hood without other sims in it, makes it
easier for your sim

Starting
the
Challenge |
- Create 1 Adult Sim of your own choice from Body Shop or
CAS. Any Aspiration, Any Personality, Either Gender.
- Build an Empty 5x5 lot and move the Sim onto it.

Checklist
each time you play:
- Have you backed up the neighbourhood and/or lot
before you started?
- Have you saved a good picture of your original
couple for your Generation 2 gift.
- Are you about to have a child become a teen?
(Remember that aspirations are chosen by the roll of
dice).
- If you have graves or custom paintings... Have
you created a sims2pack of the lot which includes the
graves and paintings? (This is invaluable for problems
with corrupt lots).
- Your Legacy Heir is getting engaged - Is their
partner a townie or NPC?
- You're moving in a sim into the legacy house - Is
the sim a townie or NPC? (special case: player sims with
no skills, no money and unemployed can move in for the
purposes of getting around a Maxis bug. However if this is
done - you must ok it with Kiri first.)

What
to do if your Lot gets corrupted:
Step
1: Don't Panic Check Various Simmers
and MTS2 to see if there's a hack that can rectify the
problem.
Step
2:
(If you've backed up the lot) Check your previous back-up. If
this lot is ok,lot-bin your corrupt one, and install your
previous back-up in your neighbourhood. If things remain ok,
you can than delete your corrupt lot.
(If you've backed up the neighbourhood) Save your corrupt
neighbourhood, in case you need information from it. Install
your backed up neighbourhood and check that it's ok. If it is,
then continue on with the backed up one.
Step
3:
You can't use your back-up. PM me.
a. Try Lot-binning the house, and then re-installing it.
b. try sim-binning the family and then re-installing them.
c. If the lot is corrupt, and won't reset:
1. Move the family out of the lot and install them on a new
5x5 lot.
2. Restore their Aspiration and Career Rewards using the
Carrigon Collections.
3. You may use Kaching/Motherlode to restore their total value
to the closest thousand underneath their pre-corrupt value.
4. Send the corrupt lot to Kiri, and I will attempt to rescue
graves and custom paintings.
You will need to rebuild their house on the vacant lot.
Alternatively - Replace step (1) in above list with this:
If you've got a sims2pack of the house with graves and custom
paintings. Install this house and bin the saved family, then
replace them with the current family.
If No backups are available, and no measures taken above work
- then restarting the challenge is all that's left.

Feel free to ask about hacks here. I'm putting the one's I
know about. But probably not all of them as there are so many
out there. I'm working my way through Various Simmers first,
then MTS2. So I'll be adding new hacks to the lists as I go.
If a hack is not mentioned - it does not mean that it's
Allowed or Not allowed, it means that either (a) you need to
use your discretion from the general guidelines in the rules,
or (b) you need to ask here first.
If you have a hack you want to include - please include the
link to where you can get it from as well.
Remember - Hacks on your Legacy Lot AND for your Legacy Sims
are limited to the allowable hacks, but Sims on your other
lots, or Sims that have left the the Legacy Lot and are not
the heir (i.e. brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc)
can use whatever hacks you like (except in their interaction
with the legacy sims).

These hacks automate certain activities, and while in one
sense they should be ok, because they don't artificially
affect the skills/needs/aspirations/wants/personality/etc -
I'm not sure they're within the spirit of the Legacy
Challenge. You're not going to lost points or be excluded from
the challenge if you use them, however I'd only use them if
you really feel you have to.

skilling or other mods done before they are converted to

| Scoring |
Keep a running tally of your
score - it's not so much who has a biggest score, as a way of
ensuring that different activities are attempted. The points
are more to keep track of that.
Points
1 for each Generation (max 10)
1 point for each $100,000 in net worth the family has
(round your current net worth up)
1 point for each PLATINUM grave on the lot
1/3 point for each family friend the family has at the end.
(round spare 1/3s down)
1 point every time a sim fulfils an 'impossible' want (a
want scoring 30,000 points or more, limit one per sim per
want. There are other wants that also count for this, like
"have 10 children")
The impossible wants are as follows:
- Family: “Have 10 children” “Have 20
grandchildren” “Send 10 children to college”
- Wealth: “Make $100,000”
- Knowledge: “Max All skills” “Be abducted 10
times” “Have children abducted 10 times”
- Romance: “Have 30 loves at once”
- Popularity: “Have 30 best friends at once”
Do NOT confuse “lifetime wants” with “impossible
wants” just because something is a lifetime want, doesn’t
mean it’s an impossible one.
-1 point every time a household member drops into
aspirational failure, requiring a visit from the sim shrink.
-1 point for each infant, toddler or child that gets taken
by the Social Worker
-2 points for every inter-bred birth in the family.
-2 points for each visitor that dies on your lot.
1 point for each group of 10 relatives that are alive in
your hood at the end of the game. (That is - aunts, uncles,
cousins, grand-parents, great-grand-parents,
great-great-etc-parents. To count the relative, they must have
the original sim as a great-great-etc-parent.) This challenge
was suggested by Pink! They do not however have to be living
in the legacy house.
2 points if all 10 career reward objects are on the lot
(One time only)
1 point for each different type of NPC that you have
children with over the whole legacy.
1 point for each different colour ghost you have on the lot
at the end.
1 point for each alien born on the lot (1st generation
aliens only, children of aliens don't count, unless it's by
abduction)
2 points if the birth that brings in the last generation is
twins.
2 points if you can get two social bunnies to have romantic
interactions on the lot (One time only)
2 points if the ghosts on your lot can access your sims.
(i.e. no blocking off the ghosts from the house by water, etc.
Putting the bedrooms on the 2nd floor is allowed though.)
-2 points for each grave that is deleted. You're not
supposed to delete graves.
2 points if you manage to collect ALL the different types
of ghosts on the lot.
University Points:
Scholarship Bonus Points:
½ a point if a teen earns $9,500 or more in scholarships for
collage
1 point if a teen earns $11,000 or more in scholarships for
collage
1 ½ points if a teen earns $12,500 or more in scholarships
for collage
2 points if a teen earns $14,000 in scholarships.
The teens in question don’t have to be the heir (ess), any
Teenager that is part of the household can earn these points
for the family. You only earn the highest bonus you qualify
for, not adding all bonus points together (i.e. you get 1
point for $11,000, NOT ½ for $9,500 then another 1 point for
$11,000).
College Bonus Points
A total of three points can be gained at college. These points
can ONLY be earned by your heir or heiress. You can still send
other siblings to college, but only one may earn you these
points per generation.
One point for graduating Summa Cum Laude (4.0 GPA, no less)
One point for having 15 friends or more at graduation (they
don’t need to be best friends)
One point for graduating with a net worth greater than $20,000
(If your heir (ess) lives with other Sims on campus, divide
the house’s net worth by the number of Player Sims in the
house. If it is greater than $20,000, you can claim the point)
There is one downside. If your heir (ess) drops out of
college, or is expelled, you lose one point. You do not get
this penalty if non-heirs leave college early.
College penalty.
There is no denying the fact that college graduates bring lots
of money with them. Left unchecked this would inflate the
family’s net worth score. To counter balance this, you will
get a –1 penalty for every 5 Sims that move into the legacy
house from college (rounded down). This could be heirs,
spouses or just friends from college.

| Glossary |
- Blood-line: Is the path between the original sim
and the current sim. Cassandra Goth is a direct descendant
of Vincent Goth, Because her father is his grandson. If
Dina marries Mort, any sim child that Dina had by Michael
Bachelor (here labelled Sim1) would NOT be a direct
descendant because their great-grandfather is not Victor.
- In-breeding: If Sim1 were to marry Cassandra Goth
or Alexander Goth - then this would be inbreeding because
they share a grandfather. Special case scenario - is alien
technician 7 - Although this is the same sim, it is
considered a different sim each time, for the purposes of
the game.

| FAQ |
What about Gay Sims? If your only legacy heir is
gay - then alien abduction or adopting a blood-line heir
are the only alternatives for continuation of the line.
What happens if I have a child that's a direct
descendant not on the lot, and all my direct descendants on
the lot are dead or gone? The challenge ends unless
you can move the sim back by marriage to an on-lot sim (and
get the penalty for in-breeding). Sims can't move back into
the legacy house without that.
Can I suggest an extra challenge? Yeah -
in the first few generations that's ok to do a scoring one -
so no-one is penalised for starting earlier, otherwise yeah -
but only if they're no-point scoring challenges.
So for example if you think up a challenge that can be
completed in a generation - then that's cool. If you think up
a challenge that needs all 10 generations - then it won't add
extra points to the score, but we'll do something for it - I
just don't know what yet, and only if all participants agree.
What is a platinum tombstone? If your Sim
dies while in a platinum mood, it produces a platinum
tombstone.
How do I find my Sim's lifetime want? If
you have the University expansion pack, then hovering over the
aspiration bar, will bring up the lifetime want. If you don't
have University, then you don't have it.
